    North Clichy

    1. OLF headquarters, av. Wagram. Aimée put on the spot by a minister.
    2. Ste.-Marie des Batignolles. Maybe meeting at church wasn’t really the best idea.
    3. Guy’s new office, rue de Chazelles. But what does he have up his sleeve?

    6. Musée Cernuschi, rue Velasquez, Parc Monceau. A stone wall around precious stones.
    8. The full-service orthopedist of passage Geffroy-Didelot: peg-legs and ANFO.
    9. Musée Henner, av Villiers. Is the director de-acquisitioning?

    South Clichy

    4. Thadée’s gallery and apartment. And more?
    5. Marché des Batignolles. Meeting of the survivors of the Sixth Battalion.
    7. Catching kidnappers at the own games: Club Radio, rue Biot.

    11. Sophie’s house, cité des Fleurs. But it’s Mado the heavy-metal rocker whom Aimée meets.
    12. Who was lost is found. And right around here: rue Lemercier.
    13. Hôtel Bonheur, rue Sauffroy. What happiness! Aimée and Réné go to ground, but not precisely in the lap of luxury.

    14. An institution of higher learning, the Académie de Billiards, rue de Clichy, provides the setting for meeting another fraction of the opposition: Blondie.
    15. Aimée’s in it for the info, but this is music night: first at Lush, passage de Clichy, them pursued by fans, around the corner at Timbuktu, with a little Schubert thrown in along the way.
    19. Aimée finds Gassot’s hotel, and finds it guarded by a Russian Cerberus.
    20. Showdown above the rails. Now only one more house to stop at.

Cara’s Clichy Picks

Salle Pleyel: 252, rue du Faubourg St.-Honoré, 75008 Paris: one of the great concert halls in Europe. Great programs, great acoustics.
Café Guerbois: 11, rue des Batignolles: location of this café, the site of regular meetings and discussions for “The Batignolles Group” of artists and writers: Manet, Fantin-Latour, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Sisley, and Zola were regulars.
Musée Cernuschi: 7 rue Velasquez, 75008 Paris. The oriental-art museum of the city of Paris. (As distinct from the Musée Guimet, 6, place d’Iéna, 75116 Paris, the national oriental-art museum.)
Musée Nissim de Camondo: 63, Rue de Monceau, 75008 Paris. An exquisite museum of French decorative arts of the early 20 th century—but a museum with a tragic history.

At the beginning of Murder in the Montmartre, Aimée is having a bad day. First, she comes home from work at her detective agency to learn that her boyfriend, Guy, the eye surgeon she met after her injury in the Bastille, is leaving her—and really, it’s her own fault. Heartbroken, Aimée goes out for a drink with her childhood friend Laure, who is now a police officer. But Laure’s patrol partner, Jacques, interrupts their conversation, saying he needs to talk to Laure urgently. The two leave the bar, and when they don’t return, Aimée follows Laure’s path and finds her sprawled on a snowy rooftop, not far from Jacques, who is bleeding from a fatal gunshot wound. Something terrible has happened—but what? When the police arrive, they arrest Laure for murder. No one is interested in helping Aimée figure out the truth. As she chases down increasingly dangerous leads in the effort to free her friend, Aimée stumbles into a web of Corsican nationalists, separatists,
