    Montmartre

    1. L’Oiseau, place Pigalle, beginning with an ending: a retirement party for a flic .
    2. Was this an informed opinion or not on the roof, rue André Antoine?
    3. Conari and Co., avenue Junot: about guests, a musician, even a systems analyst.
    4. Restaurant Strago, the ultimate liberated workers’ restaurant: they cook only when they feel like it.
    5. Lunch with Morbier at Le Rendez-vous des Chauffeurs, rue des Portes Blanches. But Aimée puts him off his feed.

    7. Club Chevalier, rue Houdon: there once was a boxer, “the Corsican Magnifico.” This is his bar.
    8. The apartment of a sharp-eyed young painter, a friend of Toulouse-Lautrec.
    9. Zette Cavalotti’s apartment, rue Ronsard. Aimée is struck by his necktie collection.
    10. The steps alongside Sacre Coeur: site of almost a family photo.

    11. Past the Marché Saint-Pierre, Aimée loses herself in the foundations of the garment industry.
    12. Chez Ammad, bar on rue Veron: Cloclo and Théo—news from the street and under it.
    13. Lucien and Marie-Dominique on the rue Lepic, a long way from home.

    21. ince this story was largely about ghosts, it stands to reason that its knot would be unraveled in a graveyard: Cimitière de Montmartre.

Cara’s Montmartre Picks

Restaurant La Cloche d’Or: 3, rue Mansart, 75009 Paris. Generous portions, and especially attractive to meat-eaters. It has a theatrical connection that keeps it open late.
A L’Etoile d’Or: 30, Rue Fontaine, 75009 Paris. A splendid chocolate shop run by a woman of great spirit. The legendary Bernachon chocolate from Lyon is available, though you will be limited in how much of it you can buy at a time.
