    She smiled self-consciously. ‘Are you looking at me?’ she asked.
    ‘What d’you think?’
    ‘It makes me feel good.’
    ‘Touché.’
    He didn’t speak for some time, drifted away into unconsciousness. When he opened his eyes she was still there. A real nice surprise.
    ‘Thought you’d’ve gone,’ he said.
    ‘No,’ she whispered. ‘I’ll watch you through the night.’
